I put down hardboard approx 18 months ago for vinyl in the bathroom. Use hardboard in living rooms and bedrooms under carpet carpet tiles and sheet vinyls. While underlayment for vinyl planks may be used under hardwood and laminate the reverse is not true. Vinyl planks require hard thin underlay because the product itself is softer.

Plywood underlayment is a thin plywood material that is most commonly used under resilient flooring materials such as vinyl and linoleum sheets and tiles. Thinner boards don t have a lot of give which may cause them to creek and crack more often.
